The Produce Buying Company Ltd. evolved from the Cocoa Purchasing company, which was established in 1947 as a Marketing wing of the Cocoa Marketing Board.In 1961 the Company was abolished alongside other expatriate buying firms such as Cadbury & Fry, G.B. Olivant, U.A.C., Lyons and UTC in a review of the operation and administration of internal marketing of cocoa. The United Ghana Farmers Co-operative Council was subsequently formed as the sole Licensed Buying Agency for the Cocoa Marketing Board which operated up to 1966.
